SAM, Halosulfuron Methyl 75% WG is the first herbicide effective control of Cyperus rotundus. It is a selective, systemic, post-emergence herbicide with WDG formulation for effective control of Cyperus rotundus from nuts in Sugarcane and Maize crop.

SAM, Halosulfuron Methyl 75% WG is a post emergence broad spectrum herbicide belongs to the chemicals group of sulfonylurea compound. Halosulfuron Methyl 75% WG has excellent foliar application efficacy against Cyperusrotundus in sugarcane crop. Cautionary statement: 1.Not to be used on crops and pests other than those mentioned on label and Leaflets. 2.Destroy containers after use as directed on leaflets. 3.This products is toxic to fish and aquatic organisms hence should not be used near water bodies, aquaculture/pisciculture area.
MODE OF ACTION
SAM, being a sulfonylurea group herbicide, inhibits acetolactate synthase (ALS), which is the first enzyme in the biosynthetic pathway of the essential branched chain Amino acide (Valine, Leucine & isoleucine). Inhibition of ALS leads to the starvation of the plant (Cyperus rotundus) for these amino acids, resulting in death (killing) of weeds. For crop plants, in the grass family like maize sugarcane, etc. there is no effect of SAM as these plant have strong MFO (mixed function oxidases) which breaks down the herbicide molecule to acid metabolite forms.
